Tips on how to write your messaging

    • Write as if you’re speaking directly to the donor. 
    • Tailor your communication to the channel you’ll share it on. 
    • Don’t be afraid to make it personal. Share what your cause means to you. 
    • Be clear and specific about what you’re asking donors to support. Never assume people know about your cause or why funding is needed. 
    • Be concise. Use simple language free of jargon and acronyms. Short sentences work best. 
    • Have a clear call to action. Include instructions on exactly what you want the reader to do. For example: go to givingday.ubc.ca on April 3 to make your gift. 
    • Add urgency. Mention time-sensitive goals or challenges you want to unlock to motivate people to give.
